UPDATE — Fatal Shooting Investigation in Sedgwick

This afternoon, Aug. 31, the 16-year-old Valley Center male suspected in the fatal shooting in the 100 block of South Commercial Avenue was booked into the Sedgwick County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center on the following charges:

• Murder in the first degree
• Criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling
• Two counts of criminal damage to property
• Carrying a concealed weapon by a person under 21
• Carrying an automatic weapon

 Detectives determined the automatic weapon allegation involves a handgun that had been modified to fire automatically.

 The information gathered during this investigation will now be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.
