Application Process Overview
Civilian positions are open for 10 business days from the posting date. Applicants will receive step-by-step instructions through the notification system.
Detention applications are accepted year-round, with academy classes held every 9 weeks—in January, April, July, and September.
Applicants for detention or patrol positions will receive a notification to schedule written testing at the Wichita Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Training Center. Testing is held on Tuesdays or Thursdays at 7:00 AM. Candidates should be prepared to complete the Physical Agility Test first; upon passing, they will proceed to the Written Exam.
After testing, candidates will schedule a jail tour to gain a firsthand look at the facility. At this stage, a file will be created and a background investigation will begin.
The next steps include:
- Oral Board interview
- Polygraph examination
- Final interview
Qualified candidates will then participate in a Command Staff Interview.
Once a Conditional Job Offer is extended, candidates will complete:
- Drug screening
- Psychological evaluation
- Basic sports physical (to be completed independently)
After successfully completing all requirements, a Deputy will contact you with your academy start date.
